Self-Inflicted Injury

An employee commits suicide in the workplace. Is it recordable?
Answer:
NO. Self-inflicted injuries, including suicide, are listed as an exception to the recordkeeping rules and do not need to be recorded.
1904.5(b)(2)(vi) You are not required to record injuries and illnesses if the injury or illness is solely the result of personal grooming, self medication for a non-work-related condition, or is intentionally self-inflicted.
